Sunday Night with MAD MEN in Times Square

Here are a few fun flipcam videos I shot at the MAD MEN Season 3 premiere screening in New York's Times Square this past Sunday night. This was a lovely fan event, despite the muggy heat -- and luckily for us, the organizers took one look at my friend Jen's great vintage frumpy-secretary outfit and let us into the VIP seating, hurrah! Bryan Batt showed up, and was very sweet (see video below), and there was a fun costume contest (see a nice photo here of all the contestants). Sorry for my unstable video-arm and our chitter-chattering in the background, but Jen and I had been bar-hopping for hours at this point (hitting the Algonquin, the Rum House and the W lobby bar) and were quite giddy.

I put some annotations on this first video, if they don't display here check them out over at my YouTube channel.

Here's Bryan Batt introducing the screening.

Here's a terrific video by New York Magazine - Dyna Moe was in the house!

By the way if you don't have cable, you can get new MAD MEN episodes over at Amazon VOD and at iTunes. Enjoy!

The History of WEEDS, Parts One and Two

In May, just before the Showtime TV series WEEDS began its 5th season, the network released this nifty promo called The History of Weed...

Today, Showtime has released The History of Weed Part 2...

Bravo, Showtime, bravo.

Leaked NEW MOON footage teases trailer?

The NEW MOON fansites are a-twitter today with news of a leaked youtube video that shows footage I assume we will be seeing in the new trailer coming out this Friday in theaters in front of Summit's new film BANDSLAM.

This video is a French featurette piece that cuts interviews and glimpses of the movie footage together. It's in French without subtitles. ETA: I have just updated the embed below with a version that has English subtitles. There is some great new footage of Jacob running around being superstrong, the Wolfpack, and the Volturi.

(When this gets yanked, you can DL an MP4 copy of the file here. It doesn't have subtitles.)

Thanks to Twicrack for this English translation:

Jacob: Has anyone ever shared a secret with you that you had to share with no one.

Taylor: New Moon is much more complexe than Twilight.

Edward: I’m leaving, you’ll never see me again.

Taylor: Edward’s leaving makes Bella deeply depressive and Jacob becomes the friend on whom she can always rely.

Jacob: I know what he made you suffer, Bella, I’ll never make you suffer. I swear.

Bella: You know you’re beautiful?

Taylor: Jacob has changed in many ways and is physically much stronger, he put on at least 14 kilos.

Bella: Be careful those things are really heavy.

Taylor: As time passes you can feel the passion growing. New Moon will really bring it up to a whole new level. There’s more action in this movie especially with the intervention of the wolf pack. I think fans will be really satisfied.

Taylor: New Moon is great. The suspense grows from the beginning to the end.

Jacob: Avoid contradicting me.

Here, by the way, is the 14-second preview Summit released online yesterday of the new trailer:

WEEDS at Comic-Con

A peek at the Seinfeld "reunion" on CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM

I got a big chuckle from this footage aired tonight on HBO of interviews and behind-the-scenes stuff from the set of CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM's upcoming 7th season, with sound bites from Ted Danson and Christian Slater, as well as some great peeks at the SEINFELD sort-of-reunion. Definitely looking forward to this -- so much so, that I decided to upload some lo-fi footage:

Now the KICK-ASS trailer is online too.

Someone has now posted the Comic-con KICK-ASS trailer online, in addition to the clips that leaked last week. Looks snarky, ultraviolent and fun.

IRON MAN 2 footage from Comic-Con

Well well well, looks like the 5-minutes of preview footage Jon Favreau screened at Comic-Con has finally made it to YouTube:

[Hat tip to Get The Big Picture.]

Let me know if this gets yanked and I'll update this post with a new source. Whiplash (Mickey Rourke) and his lightning whips look awesome!

MAD MEN season 3...just around the corner. Swell!

There's a great layout in this week's Entertainment Weekly of various MAD MEN characters shot in mid-1960s magazine editorial style. Really perfect! Here are the pages much larger so you can read the (mildly spoilery) text: One / Two / Three / Four.

Only one more week till the show starts! Here are some fun links:

If you live in New York City and love MAD MEN, there are a bunch of things going on around the city sponsored by AMC to celebrate the new season.

AMC has a great MAD MEN blog and associated Twitter feed, and new this year a useful iPhone app, to help you satisfy your hunger for new MAD MEN tidbits.

For reasons I do not understand, there have been ZERO new promo ads for season three aired on AMC (ie, ads that show us footage from the new season)...the only new videos on the website so far are interviews such as this behind the scenes video. But Matt Weiner says some intriguing things, and you get glimpses of most of the main characters in S3 wear. As usual, Christina Hendricks (Joan) and Elizabeth Moss (Peggy) are looking especially fabulous. Wonder what that "chaotic" plotline could be...perhaps the dawning of the new era (E.R.A.) that the late 1960s will bring into society?

The greatest MAD MEN fansite on the planet, The Basket of Kisses, is naturally kicking it into high gear and I found the following info over there of special interest:

The AMC press release for the season premiere apparently reminds that MAD MEN will air for the first time each Sunday with “limited commercial interruptions.” Based on BoK's past experiences with past seasons this means there will be a scene that will not be aired again, not even if they rebroadcast it immediately at 11pm, so as BoK says: "bend heaven and earth to be in front of your television at 10." Or, hey, use your DVR.

On the recently-released Season 2 DVD box, there was apparently a technical mixup on a few of the on-screen menus, making it difficult to find the commentary tracks for some of the episodes. BoK explains how to find them.

Tell your friends about AMC's MAD MEN season 2 marathon which begins this Monday, August 10th, starting at 7am. The AMC online schedule is a tad un-detailed, so BoK put together an excellent list of episode air times.

I will most likely be hanging out at BoK and at this MAD MEN livejournal fan community after the shows end each week to talk...please come on down if you feel like it. Maureen Ryan's and Alan Sepinwall's blogs are also great places to find smart engaging discussion (and probably some more great interviews) after each episode airs. Hope to see you around, my fellow Maddicts...

Some other trailers I am excited about...

Screwing And Shooting Are The Same: trailer for The Baader Meinhof Complex

This may be the best trailer I have ever seen done for a violent film in German with English subtitles. Definitely one of the best trailers I've seen in 2009 (WHIP IT and IN THE LOOP are other favorites). Perhaps it gives away too much plot what?
